Lizard Kisses, “Runoff (with Mutual Benefit)”

It was close to a year ago now that I first wrote up Brooklyn’s Lizard Kisses for Visitation Rites. I remember that day well. I sat in the cafe next to my then-new apartment trying to write up the track, but I was far too preoccupied with parking spots and my crumbling relationship. A few days later I spent an awful hour breaking up at the exact time that post was published. It seemed fitting considering the subject of the song I was writing about. I’ve had a certain affinity for the band ever since.

“Runoff”, above, comes from the band’s new release Tiny Island Teeth. The song almost sounds like a response to their previous track “Sleeping In”. Cory Siegler longingly croons after a long-lost love as delicate acoustic strumming rolls along and gentle backing “oohs” echo behind it. The rest of Tiny Island Teeth runs much the same. It’s delicate and pretty and full of a sense of loss or longing. It’s soulful and sad and ever so satisfying.

Stream it now over on Bandcamp and pre-order the Cassette release from Cakes & Tapes.
